    China, The first time.....

From Miyazaki to Fukuoka. Fukuoka to Dailan. Dailan to Beijing.

    17th March 2010
    7:00am (Japan time)
Left my apartment and went to fetch Yamanaka san at the hostel.

    7:30am
Arrived at the bus stop. Say goodbye to Yamanaka san and thanking him for fetching my car.
Saw my junior (Japanese) waiting for the same bus. He was going for career fair in Fukuoka. Japan starts searching for work as early as the 2nd/3rd year of college so that by the time they graduate, they go straight to working.

    7:55am
The bus departed from Miyazaki. Slept for about 2 hours and I got neckache. Got bored and played some game on the phone. Mom called to say that she was going to board the plane to Tianjin.

    11:30am
Arrived at Fukuoka (Train) Station. Got lots of time before flight time. Took lunch at the station. Called some friends (cause so bored) while taking lunch.

    12:27pm
Took the subway to Fukuoka Airport.

    1:10pm
Check-in luggage. Bought some books about basic Chinese. Change some currency (3000元). Last minute call to Ibu Hadijah (I'll miss her TT^TT).

    2:30pm
Security check. Went smoothly. Bored all the time and facebooking from time to time.

    2:40pm
    Board the plane.

    3:10pm
Plane departed from Fukuoka. Had some light food. Since I ordered for Muslim Meal, they gave me vegetarian food. Look out the window but I only saw white and blue. It was as if we weren't moving at all.

    4:10pm (China/Taiwan/Malaysia time)
Arrived at Dailan. At the immigration, I was asked  alot of questions. They checked very carefully. One of the immigration guy was asking alot. He asked about my scarf. The other guy said it's ok. Then he checked my pasport and asked about the place I was born. I told him in Malaysia. (In the pasport is "Selangor" so I had to explain it to him). He told the othe guy "Sri Lanka" and I told him, "NO!! MALAYSIA!!!" The other guy understand me and told the guy that Selangor is in Malaysia. Then he check my visa. He was very curious. He seems to want to ask me alot but since I cannot speak chinese, he could not say much.  Since my transit flight is nearing, (it seems to) they let me go. (I was the second last to pass the immigration place). Went straight to board the plane (the SAME PLANE).

    5:10pm
Departed from Dailan. From what I viewed (from the plane), Dailan is a nice place. The buildings are cute!!! I like to take a walk in Dailan streets and take some pictures of the cute building. Had vegetable sandwich (I think they just took out the ham cause the sandwich was too plain but the bread was delicious!!! But the black pepper was strong).

    6:30pm
Arrived at Beijing Airport. Baggage came sooo late. I played some game while waiting for it. At the custom, I was held back and had my bags checked through. While checking the bags, the custom person asked me about my plan in Beijing and why was I from Japan. I told him what I know (I don't know how to lie and it didn't seems that I need to lie). He even asked me to take out one of my shoes. So I did and he looked at the back of my shoe and gave me the okay sign. I don't know what he wanted to know from the shoe.

    7:00pm??? (lost track of time)
Asked the information on how to go to the "Tiananmen Best Year Courtyard Hotel". I only got the address and not the phone number. The information person tried very hard to help me but he couldn't find the phone number as I only got the name and address in English (I was told by a kind person that the English name  has nothing to do with the Chinese name, making it difficult to search for the hotel. He translate the address to Chinese for me).  The information person couldn't help me and asked me to take a taxi to the hotel. ( I wasn't very disappointed though, the info person was cute!!! hehhehe ^^;;A)

    8:00pm???
Took a taxi. Showed the taxi driver the hotel address and he asked me for the phone number which I don't have. So while the taxi was moving, I was frantic to search for the phone number. I called my mother/home/father/sister for it. I didn't care for the phone bill at the moment...it was an EMERGENCY!!!!
At last, Samihah (my sister) (thank you very much <3<3<3, I'll pay your phone bill when you arrive in China) found the phone number in the nick of time. (We've arrived at the street but could not find the hotel yet). The hotel person told the taxi driver on where to stop, took my bag and showed me the way. While walking, he asked me if I was from Japan and told me my mother had arrived at 3:00pm and was waiting for me.
From outside, the hotel looks nothing like the inside. The outside looks like a street alley (I'll take some pictures when I remember to) but on the inside is BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Had a LONG~~~ talk with my mother. It seems that her phone couldn't roam in Beijing so I couldn't contact her. She couldn't contact me because she didn't have a phone card. Alhamdulillah I can survive by myself (that is with the help of others of course (Amiya<3<3)).
Took out my mini notebook and log on the internet. Tried facebooking but couldn't. Maybe China block Facebook?
Had skype call with Aileen (Japan) and Pei-Shan (Taiwan). Yang (maybe Taiwan?) MSN me after that.
    Slept at 12:10am.

    Osaka Last Day?

This is the last entry about my trip to Osaka..which I've put in the back of my mind for more than a month ^^;;A

    Well...I can't remember much...here goes...

I woke up late AGAIN...at 9:30am..rushed to eat breakfast and pack my things to check out from the hotel. (check out time is 11:00am)

After that, I went to the Expo place that I blogged about in the last entry. It was great!!!

Since it was still winter, there was nothing much to look about inside the expo garden. Flowers were not blooming yet....and I didn't go there for the garden...I went there for the museum situated inside the expo garden. There are other attraction..such as the Rose Garden and the Japanese Garden...but I wasn't interested in them. The museum was exhibiting about Islamic history.

I took a lot of pictures with my phone (till my battery went dead). I was too immerse in taking pictures ad answering the kid's quiz that I forgot about the time...My phone was dead, so I had to recharge it but my charger (computer) is in the locker at the train station. So I had to wait untill I finish touring the expo place to go out and charge my phone at the train station.

When I plug in my phone, at the train station, I had miss called and messages from my prof, senior and friends....huhuuhu

My prof and senior wanted me to contact them when I arrive at the airport (flight time is nearing). My friends wanted to know when will I arrive at Miyazaki airport (they were going to fetch me from the airport). I answered them and had to wait at the train station for my phone to have sufficient battery power before going to the airport.

After that, I went to the airport just in time to check in, buy some dinner and ate before the flight. My friend fetched me at the airport, and my trip ends there.

I was tired that day, so I didn't blog and been putting at the back of my mind for quite sometime (sorry). Hope you guys aren't disappointed ^^;;A

p/s: I haven't put up the pictures in facebook...I'll put them up when I feel like it..hihihihi

    Osaka..Third Night

    and again, I'm tired!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Esaka
Woke at 9:40am. The breakfast buffet close at 10am...I rushed to take my breakfast. Then, at 11:30am, I went out to the convention place again to meet up with my senior and prof.

    Senri Chuo
Arrived at around 12pm. There was a miscommunication about the meeting place..which took me awhile before finding the right place. From there, we went to Osaka University which is in Suita(吹田).

    Suita(吹田)
At Osaka University http://www.osaka-u.ac.jp/en, we visited Laser Lab http://www.ile.osaka-u.ac.jp/index_e.html and got to look at a very enormous, humongus, gigantic laser decive. It was an honor to have such a privilege to have the opportunity to look at such device. I'm proud to say that I love what I learned so far. So interesting!!!
If it wasn't for my camera's battery, I would have taken a LOT of pictures!!!
After that, my prof took us to where his lab was before in Osaka University.
Then, we planned to go through the park which was the famous (for local) expo of 1970 http://www.expo70.jp/expo70.html. The monument is still standing there and it became a famous park after that which is situated next to the university..I planned to visit the museum http://www.minpaku.ac.jp/english/ situated in the park but when we arrived at the entrance, it was closed on Wednesdays TT^TT
    I may go there tomorrow...if I can wake up early, that is ^^;;
Since the park is closed, I decided to go to Doutonbori(道頓堀)http://www.dotonbori.or.jp/, a famous market place in Osaka. So, we walked to the nearest monorail station (Banpakukinenkouen/万博記念公園) but when we got near to it, it seems that the entrance to the station is IN the PARK!!!! Which means, we can't go in, so we had to walk further more to a train station (Yamada/山田). From there, we took a train to Nanba(なんば).
P/S: Snow fell when we were walking thru the campus and I forgot to bring my jacket TT^TT

    Nanba
Since walking outside is too cold for us, we walked in the underground way http://walk.osaka-chikagai.jp/ where shops were line up left and right. If  I were to walk alone...I would love to take a look at the things..but since I wasn't going there by my own, I had to stop myself from looking at the shop that we walk through. When we arrived at Dotonbori, I had to use my phone camera to take pictures >__<
There, I tried some sweets that looks like takoyaki. It's actually some custard ball with chocolate toppings. It was delicious. Then we tried some local takoyaki. We burn our tongue while eating those things..the filling was very hot!!! And the size is a lot bigger than other places in Japan.
After that, we visited some small temple near there. We were lucky because a rare ceremony was taking place. Then, we went to Nanba Grand Kagetsu (なんばグランド花月)http://www.yoshimoto.co.jp/ngk/ which is a famous production company. After that, we went to Umeda.

    Umeda
Went to a restaurant on top a very tall building (30th floor) in Umeda. The night view from the restaurant was spectacular!!! We just drank a glass of drink...prof likes to take some time while drinking..we sat there for one and a half hour. Then went back to Esaka.

    Esaka
Dinner at a restaurant. Again prof takes time to eat. I know it is good to eat slowly but it took us 2 hours (10pm) to finish our dinner which only consisted of a fish dish (a big plate), some tempura (a plate)  and some fried squids (2 plates)...and the plates(apart from the fish dish) were small I tell you. My senior is not the eating type...so it was left to me to eat all the time prof was talking. I had to take really small bites just to prevent myself from eating the whole fish dish alone. I never had this slowly for dinner before. Then, we when back to the hotel.

I'm typing this entry as soon I got back so that I could write down the details before it fade from my mind.
But since I could not take picture with my camera and had to resort to my handphone camera..I still don't know how to transfer the pictures to my computer (apart from using mail). I've 51 pics for today alone not including other days. I'll put them up in FB when I know how to^^

That's all for now, got to rest early...
    Jya~~~~~

    Osaka...Second Night

    I'm tired!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Esaka(江坂)
Practiced my presentation until wee hours. Slept for only 3 hours.
P/S: I went to breakfast in my pjs (track suit)...everybody else were wearing formal...Thank God I didn't wear the yukata and hotel slippers to the dining place! LOL

    Senri Chuou(千里中央)
Went to the convention http://www.lsj.or.jp/taikai/info/index.html alone. Didn't know what to do...where to register? When is my presentation?
I arrived at Life Science Center http://www.senrilc.co.jp/(where the convention is held) at around 10:15am...the convention starts at 10:30am.
I panicked and just follow the flow of people going in the building (I didn't even know if they were also going to the convention). Finally got to the registration at around 10:25am...and been given the convention booklet.
Browse through the booklet to get the information about my presentation...and found out that I'm the second presentator!!! Ekkkkkkkk...need to be there quickly!!!!!!!!
Found where should I go from there with a help of a person (thank you whoever you are ^人^).
P/S:I think I lost my university engraved pen somewhere during the commotion TT^TT

Since I didn't know anybody..and I think I'm the only foreigner and female presentator...felt soooooo alone. Nobody to talk to...When it was my time, I presented it with a little bit time over and stumble with some words TT^TT. (If I could grade myself, I would give myself a 50%)
For the question time, nobody asked me anything..so the MC had to ask something...and he asked something that I couldn't answer TT^TT

I spent the rest of session finding halal restaurant to eat during lunch in my phone (bad Husna ^^;;A)
12pm...session ended..the convention is held for three days starting today..and I'm to lazy to come back to the convention (which is held in Japanese..everything that went into my ears went out the other way around LOL)

    Yotsubashi(四ツ橋)
Went to "Hafez" http://www.hafez.jp/, a Persian halal restaurant. On the way coming to Yotsubashi, I went out the wrong station (named similar to Yotsubashi) and had to take the next train to Yotsubashi. Btw, my hotel is in between the convention and the restaurant. (It may seem like it's near...but it took me more than 1/2 hour by train + walking to the restaurant). There is a more nearer restaurant but I was wearing my formal baju kurung and the skirt prevented me from taking long strides #&%$%&'$% (the restaurant is not near a train station)
Ate "Baghali Polo" a rice dish with herbs, horsebean and lamb meat ( I was craving for meat cause I haven't eat meat (apart from chicken) in ages!!!). It was delicious.

Didn't know what to do after that....so, I went back to the hotel to check upon where to visit in Osaka.

    Esaka
Opened up the computer and surfed for places to go...most of the places to visit was closing (Japan has early closing hour...as early as 5pm...btw, banks in Japan close at 3pm mind you)..While surfing I fell asleep...huhuhuhuh
When I woke up, I was thinking of going to ABC Mart (shoe shop) to buy my favorite shoe brand "Skechers"...(there aren't a lot of choices in Miyazaki -_-;;)
Found something to my liking and bought it...
After that, I bought some "takoyaki" for it's Osaka speciality...but right after I bought  the thing, I went in a restaurant for dinner...(what an impulse!!!)
Ate "Seafood Nabe" alone. While eating, got a phone call from my prof asking if I would like to join him for dinner. I told him I was eating one, and gently turn down his offer.
After eating, I felt so full and went back to the hotel which is btw just on the opposite side of the ABC Mart/ takoyaki stall / the restaurant.
At the hotel, I was battling on whether to go out again or just rest...I still have another night in Osaka anyway...but thinking back, this is the only night that I can go out by myself. From tomorrow, my prof would definitely accompany me for the rest of the stay in Osaka. (He just came today. That's why I was free to roam till now..hihiihihi)
So, I went out again wearing the new shoes (wo~ho~)...asked the front on where to go for a night spot..but since it was around 9:45pm, there weren't much place left to visit and told me maybe "Umeda(梅田)" if before 10pm that is...shops were closing at that time.
I think what the heck..just go...Rather than spending my time in the hotel, I rather go out and enjoy Osaka night outside. So I went to Umeda.

    Umeda(梅田)
There was a street performer (Naohiro Hibi / 日比直博 http://hibinaohiro.com/) who was singing just outside the subway station. His voice was very good...I end up buying his cds (1000yen each..I bought both of his maxi singles ^^;;A)
Since it was already 10:30pm, shops were closed and I've no where to go. Thinking of taking a few snaps of the night view, I searched for a way out (I was still underground). The place IS big..I could end up getting lost of I don't be careful. Thank God, living in Tokyo taught me the experience to find my way in vast cities in Japan.
Went out and took a few snaps...realised that the camera's battery was low (I forgot to bring my charger)...I put my plan to stop. I still have two days left in Osaka and I want to take pictures with my camera not my phone..huhuhuh
So, I went back to Esaka.

    Esaka
Crave for hot cocoa drink all of sudden. Already 11pm, not a lot of cafe to choose from. So I went to "Mister Donut"http://www.misterdonut.jp/ to buy one. When I look up the menu, there was none TT^TT
I ended up buying "Hot Cafe Au Lait" (I can't handle caffeine btw..I may ended up awake for the rest of the night ).
Now, I'm back at the hotel and typing up my day...I think if I had somebody to talk to, I may not type this long details entry..hahhahhaa

For the pictures...look up in my facebook please..too lazy to put up in both place :p

    Osaka...First Night

I'm in Osaka right now...for a Laser Convention

Tomorrow I'll be presenting in the convention...by my own...meaning my prof could not be there when I present since he'll be busy himself with his presentation.

I'm in the hotel right now..I'm suppost to practice my presentation..which is in Japanese..haven't remember all the script yet...been lazy...hahahhaa ^^;;A

The hotel is combined with a department store. So, you may not recognise it from outside.
The view from my hotel window? Pachinko, ABC Mart, Uniqlo, Starbucks....huhuhuhuhu
Tempt to go shopping  when i finished with my work!!!!

I came alone to Osaka. My prof still has a meeting that he needed to attend today, so, he'll come tomorrow. While one of my lab partners came with the next flight after mine. I didn't see him since I bid him goodbye at the lab today. (He told me he was tired because of  the travel)
Anyway, he'll be busy with preparing his presentation and he need to write his masters paper which he have to submit this Friday. So, eventhough this is the first time he came to Osaka, he can't enjoy it and may have to stay inside his hotel room this 3 days in Osaka. Best of luck to him.

Since my presentation is tomorrow, I've time for Wednesday and Thursday...but I dont have anybody to play with. I thought of going to Universal Studio Japan (USJ) but I don't want to go there alone...Who would go to an amusment park alone????

I may blog more about my stay in Osaka but don't count on it..hahhahah ^^;;A

I'll practice alitte before going to sleep...pray for me.
    Pen off~~~~~ ^o^/~~~~~~
